Comparison of Sharaku( Shunrou)and Shunei’s techniques

                          Shun-ei                 Shun-ro                  Kiyo-masu

Muscled male body had been good motif in Japanese art.

The left and the center pictures are by Katukawa painters and the right one is by Torii Kiyomasu.

The positions of the ring and standing positions of the two wrestlers are almost the same , which suggests that these two artist worked competitively.

Left work by Shunei is inferior to the painting by Shunrou on the center in terms of harmony and balance.

Still, there is an irresistible line of fun that reminds us of the style of early ukiyo-e painter Torii Kiyomasu on the right.

The picture of Kiyomasu on the right is free and succeeds in creating a unique shape because there is no real model, but the highest technique.

These personal impressions can be quantified by the model.

Purple units of Mawashi belts form the basic structure.

Smaller circles form groups and are locally distributed:

The blue circle is on the lower left side, the vermilion is on the upper right, the green circle is on the lower right, and the green circle is on the lower left.

Shunrou [Kimenzan Dewanoumi] circle-arc model

The largest blue circle forms the foundation structure.

The third largest red circle is distributed throughout, which has an overwhelming harmony effect.

Shunrou [Kimenzan Dewanoumi]

the smallest unit of shape is an arc.

an arc is the part of the circle.

The circle has vertical and horizontal diameters and can be framed by a square, which I call a framed circle-arc unit.

When the units overlap, the balance effect can be easily obtained.

Just by looking at two sumo-e

It can be said that the two Katukawa school artists had used the same technique.

Picasso's drawing method with unit in 1932

Picasso tried to date all his works.

Anyone with the catalogs can see examples of all stages of finishing.

In the previous blog Picasso's geometrical spirit in 1932 invented syntactical device

I wrote that he used the very advanced technique which I call the seventh stage of decoration.

Later, I discovered that "Seurat's Grand Judd" could be shown in the more advanced eighth stage model.

The work in 1932 Picasso must have reached the eighth stage.

Work 32-042 on the left has obviously well sculptural balance effect.

Let's take up the model I wrote before.

             Picasso 32-042 scaled model

The above illustration shows that

A)   The use of scale: limited number of circles for the arcs.

B)   the circles are bundled at several points.

Make a unit using the vertical and horizontal diameters of the circle and the outer frame.

Another well finished example is [32-o58], which looks almost like fine Persian miniature.

Since  the basic structure was traced over with a brush,

It is hard to notice that the lines have a geometric structure which produces an artistic effect.

Da Vinci's painting has the same design as Raphael, but it is difficult to understand.

Da Vinci's painting has the same level of advanced design as Raphael, but it is difficult to understand.

Da Vinci was interested in reproducing the appearance of nature, so

he often blurred the boundaries.

This technique is a photographic technique that has nothing to do with pure art.

Since the utility of Renaissance paintings was mainly anecdotes,

This blurring method was taken up by other painters to bring out the truth.

Da Vinci's Mona Lisa became more famous than any of Raphael's paintings

Rubens' formal importance is ignored.

Looking  at the pictures of Cezanne's mundane motifs,

Picasso realized that the essence of art was a line.

This is modern art in a formal sense.

Seurat's method to compose "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jadde" in Barnes Foundation 5 / phrase

The largest circular units make the foundation structure.

The units of the second largest circle is used to balance the individual arcs.

I made a model of the second unit and overlap it on the first unit model.

Seurat [Grand Jadde] arc model with two types of circle (upper left quarter)

Looking at this, it can be seen that the circle between the sizes of the two types of circles are not used.

Furthermore, it can be expected that the uncolored part of the contours will be drawn by the arcs of the third and fourth sized circles.

The very elements of art are digital and clearly perceptible.

The unit structure is like a classical music score that only the effect can sense.

When we listen to music with sheet music on YouTube,

we can see that the phrase in the melody part is repeated.

When the shape is made up of several arcs, you can easily see the arcs of the same circle harmoniously.

The basic structure made of the largest circular unit acts as a music paper.

Individual closed-form such as figures and animals are melodies made up of only a limited number of arcs.

The arc, which is common to these shapes, is the smallest visible unit and acts like a phrase.

We can see arcs of the same circle as same type at the same time when they are placed close.

The arcs of the second largest circle are most effective.

The balance is achieved by overlapping the straight parts of the units.

Let's make a model with the largest circle and second largest circle.

The greatest achievement of Seurat and Cezanne was the rediscovery of the syntax of art.

The works that are popular these days, whose structure is not interesting,

is a level of pop music with no ingenuity in the score.
